Male Breast Reduction (for Gynecomastia) - Fort Worth, TX

What To Expect During And After Your Procedure

All male breast reduction procedures are performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure at an accredited surgical facility. An uncomplicated surgery takes around one hour to complete. Swelling of the surgical site will be present after the procedure, for which a compression garment will be supplied to you to wear for one to two weeks. You should be able to go back to your regular work schedule within a few days, but delay exercise until 4 weeks post procedure. This surgery allows men greater confidence when exposing their chest due to a firmer, flatter chest profile. In most cases, scarring is nearly invisible.

Surgical Techniques

Male Breast Reduction Surgery is done using a specialized liposuction technique. In some men who have only a mild case of gynecomastia, liposuction alone may be enough to attain sufficient results. In this approach, a small incision is made encircling the areola, allowing adequate access for the suction device to move through the chest and remove fatty tissue. In more extreme cases of gynecomastia, an en bloc resection of breast tissue and tightening of loose skin may be necessary. A staged surgery to include nipple grafting may also be necessary.

Living as a male with enlarged breasts can be both physically uncomfortable and socially awkward, even psychologically stressful. It can lead to avoidance of physical activities or personal intimacy for fear of embarrassment. In men, enlarged breast tissue is called gynecomastia, Greek for “woman-like breasts”, and affects as many as 30% of men. It may be associated with a hormone imbalance, obesity, or as a side-effect of medicine. Luckily, men afflicted with gynecomastia do not have to suffer in shame, as this condition is very reversible through Male Breast Reduction surgery. Anderson Plastic Surgery of Fort Worth can help you permanently eliminate gynecomastia issues.

Male Breast Reduction FAQs

Will This Help My Pecs?
All men have some soft tissue overlying the pectoralis muscles. It is when this breast tissue overgrows into larger breasts that the pecs become hidden. Through male breast reduction surgery, this excess tissue is removed, revealing the natural contour and shape of the chest wall. After surgery and recovery, targeted strength training will help lead to optimal results where the breast tissue has been removed.

Is Liposuction Always Needed?
Most cases will require a small amount of liposuction to reach optimal results as the soft tissue and fat that collects in excess will need to be removed. Multiple liposuction techniques are considered on a case-by-case basis and will be discussed during your consultation. Some are less invasive and can actually help the skin become tighter on the chest wall.
What About Scarring?
Incisions and their subsequent scars are very well concealed with male breast reduction. Incisions are relatively small and placed around the areola, so they are naturally disguised and minimal in size. Over time, the incision lines will be practically nonexistent for most men.
